Vineyard’s small team is growing rapidly! The Building Division is seeking a Building Inspector-In-Training to perform a variety of technical duties related to conducting site inspections on residential buildings to assure conformity with established city, state, and international building codes. We are excited to train the right candidate to be our inspector-in-training.

Principal Duties
- Assist Building Official in the day-to-day operations of the building department.
- Inspects new residential structures, additions to and alterations of existing buildings for compliance with the State adopted building codes.
- Read and interpret building plans and engineering specifications by reviewing information and codes and completing computations.
- Provide customer service and information to engineers, architects, contractors, government officials, and the public in matters relating to construction plans and code requirements.
- Investigates alleged code violations; determines whether violations exist; initiates proper departmental procedures to report the findings.
- Performs over the counter review of simple permits and ensures that application submittals meet city, state, and federal laws and ordinances.
- Receives and processes building permit applications, plans, and supporting documents for completeness, sufficiency of information, conformance with legal standards and City requirements.
Ideal Candidate
- (2) ICC residential certifications preferred.
- Working knowledge of construction methods and materials common to residential construction projects in all phases including framing, plumbing, mechanical and electrical.
- Ability to interpret codes accurately and effectively.
- Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
- Ability to read and understand plans.
