Part-Time Front Desk Receptionist Job Description
A Front Desk Receptionist is a warm, welcoming, people-person who is passionate about connecting people to all of the awesome programming that Muse Knoxville has to offer. They are the first face that Muse Knoxville’s guests meet and interact with. The Front Desk Receptionist handles everything from straightening up the gift shop to selling memberships to introducing and orienting new visitors to our site. Our Front Desk Receptionist must be a thoughtful problem-solver that seeks to make the visitor's experience enjoyable while desiring to make it better.
SCHEDULE: Monday-Thursday 9:45am-4:15pm, Friday 12:00-7:00pm (Memorial Day to Labor Day); Tuesday-Thursday 9:45am-4:15pm, Friday 12:00-7:00pm (September through May)
STATUS: Part-time; Non-exempt
AS A FRONT DESK RECEPTIONIST YOU WILL…
- Open and count the cash drawer at the beginning of each shift
- Greet customers with positivity and enthusiasm as soon as they come in the door, check them in, inform them of membership opportunities, planetarium shows, and unique activities or events if occurring
- Handle cash and card transactions, sell admission tickets, process memberships, and sell gift shop and cafe items
- Be knowledgeable about the Muse calendar and upcoming events in order to help orient and educate both in-person and over the phone guests
- Accurately check-in members, field trips, birthday party guests, and other special event guests
- Answer the Muse Knoxville phone, thoroughly answer questions and direct calls to the appropriate department
- Keep the lobby, gift shop, and front desk area clean, organized, and stocked throughout the day
- Make intercom announcements regarding planetarium shows, Muse programming, and other events as scheduled throughout the day
- Finalize and balance drawer at the end of the day
- Any other duties as assigned by the Guest Experience Manager
Requirements:
- Pass a background check
- Previous experience as a receptionist or cashier required
- Experience with Square point-of-sale and/or Blackbaud Altru a plus
- Strong organizational, good verbal communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to count back change from a money transaction
