Job Summary:
The Lown Cardiovascular Group is a concierge out-patient, private practice affiliated with Brigham and Women’s Hospital. We are a practice providing patient-centered, noninvasive cardiovascular care emphasizing prevention, compassion, and trust between doctor and patient. Our practice focus includes: non-invasive general cardiology, women’s cardiology, sports cardiology, second opinions and cardiovascular testing.
The Medical Assistant (MA) is an integral member of the healthcare team and is accountable for patient care as assigned by a licensed independent provider (MD, NP), or a Registered Nurse (RN). The MA participates in the direct and indirect care of patients as instructed by the MDs/NP or RN. Developing relationships with patients, families, and colleagues, the MA functions as an interdisciplinary team member who provides quality patient care and contributes toward the attainment of important goals for the patient, the practice, and the organization.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Demonstrates true engagement and enthusiasm to contribute toward the care delivery needs for patients and families.
· Actively and efficiently manage the flow of patients through the practice.
· Pre-visit chart medical record preparation and information gathering to optimize the visit.
· Room patients: assist providers with medical histories, appropriate documentation in the electronic health record, check routine vital signs.
· As directed by a clinician, enters/scribes orders for tests, services, or appointments in Epic.
· Disinfect and prepare clinic rooms before and after each patient visit and conduct clinic in a hygienic manner in keeping with infection control guidelines.
· Ensure appropriate stocking of all examination rooms with supplies and all materials necessary for efficient patient care.
· Performs routine tests that may include but is not limited to electrocardiograms and the collection of specimens for laboratory testing.
· Participates in team-based care and patient education initiatives to support the health and wellness of patients in conjunction with the MD/NP/RN.
· Performs telephone screening and triage of patients and may provide instructions to patient when directed by MD/NP/RN.
· Performs prescription management tasks including medication prior authorization.
· Draws blood samples, as ordered, and manages interface with outside lab vendors , such as Quest/ Boston Heart Diagnostics.
· Preparing, administering and documenting vaccinations/immunizations, as directed by a physician or other licensed provider.
· Place, educate and retrieve 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure devices (ABPM), prepare ABPM reports for clinician interpretation, and support ABPM within the practice.
· Issue, register, and educate patients with cardiac heart monitors to include prior authorization oversight.
· Performs a variety of tasks, including those that may be facilitated by administrative staff, which influence overall operations of the practice. This could include ordering medical and pharmacy supplies, and other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
· High school diploma or GED required.
· Associate degree or bachelor’s Degree preferred.
· Experience in healthcare required.
· Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant Certificate Program Preferred or Foreign Medical Graduates encouraged to apply.

SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
Clinical Skills:
- Knowledge of practice operations and standards.
- Beginning to intermediate knowledge and use of medical terminology.
- Ability to accurately perform vital signs including: temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, orthostatic measurements, height, and weight.
- Ability to perform medication reconciliation and related prescription management tasks, including medication prior authorizations.
-Willing to learn and perform phlebotomy.
- Strong communication and organizational skills are essential.
- Ability to triage patient phone calls, following office protocol and with clinician oversight.

- Ability to correspond and communicate with others clearly and effectively in writing (via e-mail, memo or interoffice note, documentation of patient information) and to take complete and accurate messages.
Phone Skills:
- Ability to telephonically support the practice by answering and screening calls, offering information within scope of practice to facilitate communication.
Organization Skills:
-Ability to manage work processes in a neat and systematic way.
-Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively, appropriately prioritize clinical work, following established policies, procedures, and clinical practice guidelines.
Technology Skills:
- Demonstrates ability to utilize technology in the clinical setting. Includes basic computer skills as well as the utilization of electronic medical equipment.
-Ability to type accurately and enter data at an intermediate level.
-Ability to become proficient in using the EHR (Epic) and other appropriate applications. -Ability to utilize technology and download related data to the electronic health record.

-Works within legal, regulatory, accreditation and ethical practice standards relevant to the position and as established by the Group; follow safe practices required for the position; complies with appropriate Lown Cardiovascular Group policies and procedures; fulfills any training required by Lown, as appropriate; brings potential matters of non-compliance to the attention of the supervisor or other appropriate staff.

Pay: $18.00 - $25.00 per hour
