OVERVIEW OF ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Use the District’s ELE curriculum based on the WIDA and MA ELA standard frameworks to plan, develop, and implement student-centered language and literacy lessons that will promote the academic achievement of English Learners
- Provide high quality instruction in English language development (ELD) classes
- Model growth mindset and hold high standards and expectations for all students.
- Coach and collaborate with content teachers to monitor the progress of EL and FEL students and provide suggestions for interventions that meet students’ academic and linguistic needs
- Develop and implement student success plans for at-risk students and work with teacher teams in implementing plans
- Provide a safe and respectful learning environment that fosters social and emotional competencies and empowers multilingual students to be skilled and competent communicators that actively participate in their school community
- Communicate and engage with families about students’ learning
- Participate in professional development opportunities at the department, school, and district levels as well as monthly department meetings
- Administer intake assessments (WIDA Screener) as part of the EL identification process
- Administer annual ACCESS tests and use results along with other district and school determined measures to inform instructional decisions, monitor students’ progress, and ensure students’ growth and attainment of language and learning objectives
- Maintain students’ files with documentation forms according to district and State protocols
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Massachusetts license in ESL, PreK-5, preferred
- Strong interpersonal communication skills, decision making, problem solving, and organizational skills
