Our Communications Specialists work as part of the communications team to help La Clinica meet its mission and vision. This role is focused primarily on digital communication, including social media. This Communications Specialist helps La Clinica tell its story in the community by using a blend of creative and technical skills to share information on social media and La Clinica websites. The specialist also will have a role in providing support for other team tasks.

Accountabilities Include:
Performs Essential Job Duties

Communicate effectively with staff and the public in writing and verbally
-
Raise community awareness about La Clinica’s services, using email, social media, printed material, and presentations to tell stories according to established outreach and communication plans

Distribute and maintain La Clinica materials in health centers and with public partners
-
Uphold brand standards and contribute to the brand’s ongoing development
-
Work with team to ensure that patient materials are accurate, complete, and easily understood
-
Work with team to ensure that public and internal websites are accurate, complete, and up to date
-
Stay up to date on all changes to La Clinica services, connecting with Communications Officer if service changes conflict with messaging
-
Support team members in creation of organizational messages
-
Keep up to date with communications trends and share ideas for innovation with team

Meet deadlines for creation and publication of content
-
Represent La Clinica at public events
-
Support team members in coordinating speaking requests and ensuring staff have the correct materials and information to speak effectively about La Clinica

Complete assigned trainings via La Clinica’s learning module system (Relias) by required due date
-
Complete other duties as assigned
Communications Specialists with a digital media focus also:
-
Create and curate content for La Clinica’s social media channels, including a variety of posts and advertising
-
Contribute to regular reporting on outcomes
-
Use video in storytelling
-
Respond to social media reactions in a timely way
-
Stay up to date on social media trends and bring recommendations for new approaches to team
Communications Specialists with a material focus also:
-
Coordinate requests for materials creation, design, and production, ensuring that these are processed in a timely and efficient way

Create and maintain internal filing systems
-
Design and produce clear, accurate, and compelling printed materials
-
Distribute and maintain La Clinica materials in health centers and with public partners
Communications Specialists with an external focus also:
-
Serve as backup spokesperson for La Clinica and backup public information officer in incident command structure
-
Serve as primary support for Communications Officer in creation of external messages

Qualifications:
Must be able to interact with a variety of individuals at various levels under stressful circumstances while exercising sound judgement, tact, and diplomacy; work productively both independently and in a team setting; communicate with clarity, both verbally and in writing to groups and individuals.
Education and/or Experience:
Required:
-
Minimum: High School Diploma
-
Experience in communications industry, including with content and video creation
-
Experience working collaboratively with a team to plan events or projects
-
Excellent interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills
-
Skills to intervene and promote reconciliation, compromise and positive outcomes in difficult interactions
Preferred:
-
Bachelor’s degree in related field
-
Bilingual in English/Spanish
-
Familiarity with HIPAA and healthcare organizations’ communications needs
-
Basic knowledge of adult learning models
Language Skills:
Must have the ability to communicate with clarity, both verbally and in writing; read, analyze, and interpret complex documents, regulations, policies, and procedure manuals; and create professional business documents.
Reasoning Ability:
Must have the ability to:

Understand confidential document security from a legal perspective.
-
Effectively deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
Technical skills:
Required: Strong communications best practices knowledge, content creation skills (writing, graphic design, and video production), and grammar ability. Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Photoshop, and Canva. Preferred: Experience with publication, content management systems, Adobe InDesign, WordPress.
