Job Summary:
The Construction Field Engineer is to assist the SAM Development & Construction teams with the planning and daily execution of the construction project. The Field Engineer is the link between office management, field activities, and project administration. The position is involved in quality control of the field operations by assisting in the management of plans, RFIs, maintaining logs, schedules, and overall to facilitate a well-managed project, while maintaining project safety initiatives and the coordination of timely required materials delivery. They must be flexible and adaptable team-players, while being easygoing and possessing strong communication, task management and client service skills.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Perform project management responsibilities, such as: writing and administering RFIs, updating plans, manage schedules, lead meetings & job walks, Q.C. coordination, etc.
- Participate in OAC meetings and prepare and distribute timely and accurate meeting minutes.
- Assist the construction team in managing, processing and tracking of submittals, RFI’s, and logs.
- Assist in management of project permit process.
- Lead the document control process: Distribute electronic and paper plans, review and approve shop drawings and submittals, specifications, drawings, permits, etc. to appropriate parties and maintain the drawing revision logs.
- Monitor, measure, inspect and report scope on work put into place in the field.
- Support the Superintendents to generate and update Project Schedules as necessary including inserting confirmed materials lead-times.
- Problem solver and handles conflict resolution related to field activities. Initiate corrective action as warranted to achieve the project expectations and goals.
- Maintain project records including all current plans, specifications, submittals, construction change directives, change orders and closeout documentation in an organized fashion.
- Identify conflicts in construction progress and communicate them to the construction team for resolution.
- Complies with all SAM safety policies and wear proper safety equipment at all times.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Office based position but candidate will be required to travel to project sites on occasion.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management or engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
- Preferred prior experience in the construction industry is desired; specifically multifamily construction projects.
- Minimum 3 years relevant experience required.
- Proven work experience project management in construction or related role.
- Proficient with technologies and applications used in business and on construction sites, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Project, SharePoint, & Outlook), and other current construction management software including AutoDesk Construction Cloud (AutoCAD, Build, ProEst, Takeoff, Assemble, BIM360), Primavera, Blue Beam, Procore, or similar
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction required or have the ability to obtain.
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
- Must have a valid driver’s license with clean driving record.
- In-person position in our Scottsdale office.
- Must be willing to participate in the Company’s pre-employment screening process, including drug screen and background investigation.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Ability to utilize SAM Construction application on a smart phone, tablet or laptop.
- Must be experienced and able to read, understand and interpret construction documents, drawings, specifications, scopes of work, estimating, and project schedules for constructability and conflict reviews specific to Multifamily construction.
- Strong working knowledge of the local multifamily and residential construction industry and subcontractors.
- Demonstrated organizational and problem-solving skills and ability to adapt to changing needs.
- Understanding building permit, approval and inspection processes.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills.
- Excellent communication and partnering skills to work effectively with subcontractors, consultants, internal staff, and regulatory agencies.
- Working Knowledge of OSHA regulations and accepted Safe Work practices for the Construction Industry.
- Understanding of construction equipment, including safe operating practices and signs of maintenance issues is preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Able to stand and walk project site for extended period of times.
- Regularly sit, talk and/or hear for extended periods of time.
- Frequently required to use hands to finger, handle or feel.
- Occasionally required to but not limited to reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop kneel, crouch, and/or crawl.
- Must be able to ascend and descend ladders, scaffolds, stairs and work in confined spaces and in proximity to loud equipment.
- Must be able to lift and carry or otherwise move 50 pounds regularly/occasionally
- Must be able to respond quickly to sounds.
- Must be able to see and respond to dangerous situations.
- Must be able to safely climb ladders.
- Must be able to wear personal protective gear most of the day.
- May be required to work in hot and cold environments and on concrete floors.

- Monday to Friday, 5am-3pm (Summer), 6am-4pm (Spring/Fall), 7am-5pm (Winter)
Ability to commute/relocate:
- Phoenix metro area: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required). This is a field position and will require daily travel to the jobsites.

Experience:
- Construction management in a Field Engineer, Project Engineer or Assistant Superintendent role: 3 years on New Multifamily Construction (Required)
