Job Overview:
Sugar Hollow Solar is hiring a Design and Engineering Manager! The Design and Engineering Manager plays a crucial role for the company as we take on more complex projects and grow as a technical team. This role has three main job functions: oversee the design department (consisting of design, permit, and proposal specialist roles), create our more complex designs (especially commercial 3-lines), and provide technical assistance and guidance within the company and to customers, contractors, utilities, and AHJs. This person will work closely with our sales team, commercial team, and operations department, as well as serve as a technical expert with the leadership team. The Design and Engineering Manager reports to the COO.

Hybrid if living in the Asheville, NC area. We are open to remote work for someone who is not located in this area.
$65,000 - $80,000/yr / based on experience. Structural or Electrical Engineering license is a big plus and would put this job in a higher pay scale!
Job Responsibilities:
- Oversee & manage staff for the design department with responsibilities ranging from estimating, designing, & permitting oversight for solar electric, battery back-up and EV charger systems
- Work closely with teams across the company (primarily design, install, sales, and project managers) to facilitate the understanding of our products, project scopes, and industry technologies
- Serve as the lead resource for technical inquiries for projects from sales through installation, providing expertise and assistance in quoting, designing, and advising on scopes of work, including residential and commercial projects, as well as O&M
- Assist in developing and implementing training for design, site survey and other teams across the company on our standards and equipment
- Create our more complex designs (especially commercial 3-lines)
- Own and adjust our pricing tools for residential and commercial projects as well as O&M estimating
- Coordinate with utilities and other AHJs on rules, regulations, and the understanding of those across the company
- Engage in product and technology choices and development within the company
- Ensure systems are installed per our standards and gain feedback from installers for process improvement
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Recruit, interview, hire, train, and supervise staff
- Oversee the daily workflow of the department
- Mentor and coach staff while providing constructive and timely performance evaluations and feedback
- Handle disciplinary concerns and termination of staff in accordance with company policy
Qualifications:
- 5+ Years experience designing and/or troubleshooting PV systems (including commercial system experience), energy storage systems and other renewable technologies including a variety of equipment types
- Knowledge of residential and commercial electrical and structural engineering concepts and codes
- NABCEP certified
- A solutions-oriented attitude and the ability to quickly identify effective, efficient resolutions to challenges and issues
- Experience in management and leading a team
- Customer service expertise
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Proficient in Autocad, Microsoft Suite, Google Suite, and CRM software
- Have a valid driver’s license
Requirements:
- Excellent leadership skills
- Effectively manage multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast paced environment
- Great communication skills

- Occasional travel may be required
