COMPANY OVERVIEW
- SpectronRx is a growing Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization (CDMO) based in Indianapolis, Indiana, and production locations in South Bend, IN; Bunker Hill, IN; and Danbury, CT with plans for additional future production facilities. We are seeking a Cyclotron Operator to join our growing company at our Bunker Hill, IN facility. A cyclotron is a particle accelerator normally used for physics research and nuclear medicine used to produce essential isotopes to support our CDMO operations.
KEY ROLE SUMMARY*
- Cyclotron Operators are responsible for the operation of the cyclotron and support isotope production as their core function while are also expected to learn and assist with the routine maintenance and repair. In this role, you will work both individually and as a team to operate the cyclotron(s) and ancillary production equipment, while learning how to test and repair various components, document all repair procedures you perform, and help to ensure the cyclotron(s) and facility remain compliant with all regulatory and operational standards. Teamwork skills and the ability to coordinate repair efforts are essential to success in this position.
- Cyclotron operators must have the ability to understand and execute cyclotron operation in addition to demonstrate inclined mechanical and technical ability to become proficient in basic cyclotron routine maintenance duties.
- The Cyclotron operators are also expected to assist senior/lead technicians and/or cyclotron engineers with cyclotron maintenance and repair to further expand their technical and mechanical skills. Cyclotron operators will also support the other isotope manufacturing areas as well as assist with other engineering projects as assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS*
- Primary duties include cyclotron operation and isotope production support as scheduled, as well as performing assigned routine and preventative maintenance tasks.
- Must be able to learn and understand cyclotron operation. Preference given to those with prior
Cyclotron experience or other relevant particle accelerator experience.
- Must demonstrate inclined electrical and mechanical comprehension and ability to learn how to correctly troubleshoot equipment problems. Prior technical maintenance experience preferred.
- Must be willing to work shifts to support 24/7 work week schedules such as 2nd and 3rd shifts as well as uncommon work weeks (e.g., Sunday--Thursday or Wednesday – Sunday). The cyclotron engineers, assistants, technicians, and operators are expected to be available during these planned maintenance periods. Scheduled PTO will generally not be authorized or very limited during these maintenance period. Additionally, there may be scheduled time-off or “Plant shutdown" periods requiring the use of PTO or taken unpaid.
- Must have the ability to learn Cyclotron theory and Control interfaces and apply themselves to continually improve their understanding and interconnectivity of the Cyclotron components.
- Must be able to complete documentation required for day-to-day operations in both paper and computer format as needed for trend analysis and performance data.
- Must have sufficient computer skills and comfort level to work in front of a computer and the controlling software as needed during a typical shift. Proficiency with standard Microsoft Office
Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.) software is expected.
- Must be able to follow assigned maintenance tasks and activities per OEM and Cyclotron manufacturer recommendations while also maintaining ALARA and dose management responsibilities.
- Must assist with other productions duties as assigned.
- Must adhere to required Quality Control SOP’s, policies and procedures as required.
- Must be able to provide timely information to his or her Supervisor regarding Cyclotron status or failure.
- Must be able to prepare and submit paperwork for capital equipment, support equipment and consumables as needed for continued production reliability.

- Must work in dangerous environments that will require full presence of mind and thought when dangers are encountered. These may include high voltages, falling hazards, tripping hazards or items falling from heights onto personnel.
- Must also be able to work diligently and safely around potential chemical, airborne, mechanical and radiation hazards. All cyclotron staff must understand these potential hazards and be vigilantly aware and prudent in correct response and avoidance.
- Must be detail oriented and accountable as well as be able to work in a team environment with minimum supervision. Must be able to follow instructions and ask questions for clarity if needed.
- Must endure heavy physical exertion at times including walking, standing, reaching, and be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds and push or pull a load up to 325 pounds. Must be able to climb ladders and use the required safety equipment when needed.
- Must be able to read, write and speak in English with ability to analyze and interpret technical procedures and manuals.
- Must have a computer background and be experienced in Microsoft Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.)
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Associate degree in a technical, mechanical, or physical science discipline, or at least 5 years relevant industry experience in electrical, mechanical, or technical maintenance role and demonstration inclined technical and mechanical ability.
- Able to learn and understand troubleshooting electronics down to the component level.
- Must be able to read and interpret electrical and mechanical drawings as well as operation manuals.
- General understanding and able to learn operation of basic electronic test equipment, multimeters, oscilloscope, and network analyzer.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to be trained and take direction.
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor degree in Engineering, Physical science, or mechanical discipline preferred.
- Working knowledge of digital and analog circuitry
- Knowledge of basic Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Good Documentation Practices (GDP)
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Valid Indiana driver's license or ability to obtain one within first 6-months of employment
- Pass a Background Check.
