Messina is assisting our client, a consumer and institutional goods contract manufacturer in Chicago (near Midway Airport), with their search for a Contract-to-Hire Human Resources Specialist.
The Human Resources Specialist effectively manages the day-to-day human resources operations to optimize productivity, profitability, and employee satisfaction.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist with the recruitment process, including sourcing candidates, screening resumes, scheduling interviews, and conducting background checks.
- Onboard new hires, ensuring necessary paperwork is completed and new employees understand company policies and benefits.
- Process payroll changes, leaves of absence, and terminations.
- Assist with employee relations matters, including providing guidance on company policies and procedures, and investigating and resolving employee concerns.
- Perform benefits administration to include group health and welfare and voluntary plans.
- Manage annual open enrollment in collaboration with the corporate office.
- Respond to unemployment and disability claims.
- Prepare employee census information for insurance, 401(k), and other reports.
- Execute all employee termination procedures including advising employees on their rights and any benefits they are entitled to and processing any terminations.
- Maintain knowledge of legal requirements & government reporting regulations affecting HR function.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records under company policy and federal regulations.
- Ensure health and safety regulations are followed.
- Contribute to efforts for continuous improvement and reduction of costs/waste.
Requirements:
- 2 -5 years relevant experience in HR experience, ideally in a manufacturing setting.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources or related field preferred.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of HR management.
- Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Proficient in Microsoft Suite.
- Experience using HR software and HRIS databases.

Pay: $23.00 - $26.00 per hour
