Performs a variety of routine clerical and manual work related to circulating library materials and providing service to library patrons.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Performs materials processing

Trains new circulation employees

Checks library materials in and out and sorts returned materials for re-shelving.

Answers telephone calls and greets library patrons, or otherwise assists or refers patrons as appropriate.

Processes overdue materials and fines.

Inspects returned materials for damage.

Enters data into computer, including patron registration, reserves and renewals.

Communicates library procedures and policies to patrons.

Assists in maintaining library collection and facilities by processing daily newspapers, straightening books, chairs, emptying book drops, etc.

Monitors and processes reservations for library study rooms and equipment.

Assists with special programs including assistance with scheduling, publicity, program arrangements such as facilities, etc.

Provides directional assistance to patrons in the location of library materials, facilities and use of library equipment.

Performs related work as assigned or apparent.

Cross-trains in all areas to learn tasks essential to good customer service.

Attends and participates in staff meetings
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education and Experience

High school graduate.
-
Experience in customer service; public library experience is preferred.
Technical Skills
-
Proficiency in keyboarding and computer skills, cash register/point of sale equipment experience.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under the direct supervision of the Public Services Librarian, and the general direction of the Library Director.
