RN Breast Care - Women's Diagnostic Center
40 Hours weekly, Full Time, Dayshift
Job Summary:
The RN-Breast Care will work in collaboration with staff and physicians to develop the program of patient education, coordination, and referral, primarily directed to those patients with abnormal mammograms.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
The following is a summary of the major functions of this individual's job. He or she may perform other duties, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below, and specific functions may change from time to time.
1. Assists technologists with operational activities of Mammography/Ultrasound.
2. Assists the technologists, radiologists and surgeons with management of patient care.
3. Demonstrates Clinical proficiency utilizing the nursing process to plan and implement care for a patient with abnormal mammography results.
4. Demonstrates organizational skills in developing the breast center program and in providing patient care and education.
5. Collaborates with the Mammography Team Leader, Clinical Manager, Director of Radiology and radiologists to develop and support performance improvement activities.
6. Provides breast health education to patients and/or the community, as needed.
7. Demonstrates proficiency in nursing skills specific to practice.
8. Prepares and recovers patients having invasive procedures. Assists with the procedure when needed.
9. For patients with abnormal mammograms, explains significance to patients, contacts referring physicians, makes arrangements for patients to see a surgeon, and assists/supports a patient as needed with decision-making.
10. Contacts patient by phone when a screening mammogram detects an abnormality. Schedules the patient for a follow up appointment for additional images.
11. Excellent communication, public relations skills, and judgment required, as the nurse is the central point of communication between the patient, radiologist, referring physician and surgeon.
12. Carries out additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Education, Training and Experience Required:
A. Experience:
1. Two years relevant patient-care experience required.
2. Exhibits growing knowledge of nursing theory and practice
3. Prior experience as charge nurse preferred, not required
B. Education:
1. Active Kentucky RN license; BSN preferred.
2. BCLS certified within 90 days of hire.
