Job Description:
We are seeking a highly experienced and motivated Chief Healthcare Underwriter to lead our underwriting team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in healthcare underwriting, exceptional analytical skills, and a deep understanding of the healthcare insurance industry. This role involves managing underwriting activities, ensuring compliance with industry regulations, and developing strategies to optimize risk selection and profitability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the healthcare underwriting team, providing guidance and support to ensure high performance.
- Develop and implement underwriting policies, procedures, and guidelines to ensure consistent and accurate risk assessment.
- Analyze and evaluate healthcare insurance applications, ensuring compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with actuarial, claims, and sales teams to develop and refine underwriting strategies.
- Monitor industry trends and regulatory changes, adjusting underwriting practices as necessary.
- Review and approve large and complex healthcare insurance applications.
- Mentor and train junior underwriters, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional development.
- Conduct regular audits of underwriting files to ensure quality and compliance.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including brokers, agents, and reinsurers.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Healthcare Administration, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in healthcare underwriting, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Strong knowledge of healthcare insurance products, regulations, and industry trends.
- Proven track record of developing and implementing successful underwriting strategies.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong leadership and team management abilities.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience with David Young/ESL and Claros Advisor are a plus.
- Professional certifications such as CPCU (Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter) or ARe (Associate in Reinsurance) are a plus.
