JOB DESCRIPTION
I. IDENTIFYING INFORMATION
Position Title: Mental Health Therapist
Location: Catholic Charities: Indianapolis, Bloomington
Status: Full time
FLSA: Exempt
Reports to: Program/Clinical Director
II. PRIMARY FUNCTIONS
Provides mental health counseling.
III. POSITION CONTENT
A. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
· Provides clinical counseling services in a variety of modalities, including in person, telehealth, and group.
· Provides culturally sensitive and trauma-informed care.
· Conducts comprehensive individualized assessments.
· Develops treatment plans and treatment updates with participation of client.
· Addresses client’s presenting treatment while supporting the mission of Catholic Charities, which encompasses the teachings of the Catholic Church.
· Provides services reflecting respect for clients and adherence to professional boundaries.
· Maintain a consistent weekly productivity, reflecting 68% of work time with scheduled client appointments, and 80% of those appointments resulting in counseling sessions.
· Offers in person and virtual sessions, complying with expectations for location.
· Willing to provide evening appointments weekly.
· Monitor for continued effectiveness of the treatment modality at each session for virtual appointments.
· Makes collateral contacts when appropriate.
· Attends clinical staffing, staff development meetings, general staff meetings.
· Works with Clinical Director and Front Office staff in arranging clinical appointments.
· Works with Practice Administrator in determining financial responsibility of clients.
· Completes required client paperwork and charting, ensuring timely submission as requested.
· Complies with state and federal laws on privacy.
· Perform other duties as necessary to ensure efficient functioning of the agency.
IV. POSITION SPECIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
A. SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND/OR ABILITIES
· General knowledge of developmental and behavioral dynamics of children, adolescents, adults, and families.
· Ability to maintain confidential information.
· Demonstrated commitment to justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion.
· Demonstrated experience/ability to respond to cultural differences including but
o not limited to race, gender, sexuality, religious/spiritual identity, and ability status.
· Ability to use trauma-informed practices.
· Ability to use in-depth understanding of practice theory which has been integrated and validated through practice.
· Ability to see various treatment approaches as indicated by assessment.
· Awareness of community resources.
· Ability to work collaboratively with agency staff, other professions, and agencies in the community.
· Willingness to continue professional growth and share expertise with co-workers.
· Knowledge of the service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics
· Understanding of strengths of clients from vulnerable backgrounds as well as awareness of the role systems play in advantages and marginalization.
· Willingness to foster the mission of the Church.
B. EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE
1. Master’s degree in social work, marriage and family therapy, counseling, or related field.
2. Associate licensure and working towards full licensure.
3. Complete required background checks.
4. Understand and comply with the Code of Conduct.
5. Must be able to successfully complete the Archdiocese of Indianapolis Child Safety Training.
V. WORKING ENVIRONMENT
· Catholic Charities office, schools, and partner non-profit agencies.
· Ability to communicate verbally throughout workday.
· Ability to work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
· Some evenings required.
