The Freedom and Prosperity Center (F&P) aims to increase the well-being of people everywhere and especially that of the poor and marginalized in developing countries through unbiased, data-based research on the relationship between prosperity and economic, political, and legal freedoms, in support of sound policy choices.
The project’s goals are both theoretical and practical: It aims to produce cutting-edge research regarding the preconditions for the best socio-economic outcomes for poor and marginalized people across the developing world. It aims to reach governments and legislatures, civil societies, NGOs, educators and other thought leaders, news outlets and other media, and individual people.
The Deputy Director, Freedom & Prosperity, will be a key part of the team and will work closely with the Senior Director of the Center in the Atlantic Council’s dynamic and entrepreneurial workplace culture. This position requires close and continuous collaboration with colleagues in other regional and functional centers across the Atlantic Council.
Based in Washington DC, the Deputy Director will help to implement the Center’s strategy and advance community outreach. This position will focus on ensuring that F&P’s work is well-structured and reaches policy stakeholders while consistently broadening our reach to a new community of global stakeholders. The ideal candidate will grow the F&P’s brand and increase awareness of the Center’s content and convenings.
This position is based in our Washington, DC, headquarters on a hybrid schedule. Pay is commensurate with experience, education, and organizational equity, with offers starting at $93,000.
Job responsibilities
Research and publications (50%)
- Building the Intellectual Foundation for the F&P Center. Help with the analytical work to establish the intellectual foundation of the Center’s message. This includes internal and external short-format publications, topic-specific reports, as well as Twitter and LinkedIn publications.
- Outreach/Communications. Represent the Atlantic Council externally with the Administration, Congress, the diplomatic community and foreign governments, donors, media, etc., as well as at public and private events, international conferences, etc.
Program management (50%)
- Implementing the F&P message. Work with partner organization to provide grants to promote the Freedom & Prosperity research and advance real-world impact across the developing world.
- Convenings. Help with every aspect of efforts to continue building out a community of influence through the convening of roundtables and public events.
- Management. Support the senior director in managing the team’s operations and finance responsibilities including for fellows, associate and assistant directors, and program assistants and interns and assist in staff recruitment when required.
- Development. Continue to build the program’s funding base by sustaining current financial support and pursuing additional support from corporations, government agencies, international organizations, foundations, and stakeholders.
