We are looking for a talented Medical Laboratory Assistant at our Hermitage and Lebanon locations!
JOB SUMMARY
This position is responsible for the performance and management of laboratory testing in a CLIA waived physician office lab setting with strict adherence to the manufacturer directions while maintaining the highest standards of quality. Laboratory testing encompasses, equipment maintenance, testing of quality control material, processing and testing of patient samples, recording/resulting accurate data onto manual log sheets and into the laboratory information system, and preparing samples for transport and maintaining stability requirements. Periodic checks such the management and monitoring of equipment temperatures are required. Troubleshooting, resolving, and documenting issues related to equipment performance, patient results, reagent stability, and quality control data are required of this position. Inventory management and monitoring of par levels is required along with maintaining adequate laboratory supplies. Receipt and proper storage of clinic vaccinations is required. The individual serving in this position must demonstrate the ability to multitask while working collaboratively and effectively with physicians, providers, fellow team members, patients, and the public in the performance of all job duties. In addition to the duties listed below, this position may be required to perform other related duties as requested/assigned at a level that meets and/or exceeds HMA expectations.
RESPONSIBILITIES (INCLUDE, BUT NOT LIMITED TO)
- Adhere to daily Start Up/Shut Down procedures of the laboratory.
- Adhere to Quality Control Guidelines of each testing method in strict alignment with manufacturer instructions.
- Confirm correct labelling of all specimens received.
- Receive, correctly identify, and prepare specimens for testing.
- Correctly perform CLIA waived testing.
- Accurately follow established procedures for handling various specimens/cultures – i.e. throat, wound, stool, urine, sputum, etc.
- Ensure timely entry and accurate recording of patient results, quality control data, maintenance steps, and troubleshooting measures.
- Monitor, document, troubleshoot, and maintain accurate temperature requirements.
- Manifest and prepare specimens for transport to HMA downtown lab and/or reference laboratory.
- Maintain awareness of courier pickup times and ensure specimens are prepared to meet the scheduled pickup time.
- Process and send out any STAT labs to appropriate lab when needed.
- Manage laboratory inventory and maintain adequate par levels to avoid shortage/outage of supplies. Stock in a timely manner.
- Review, maintain, and document accurate lot numbers of reagent and quality control products and corresponding expirations dates.
- Maintain clean and orderly work areas and inventory storage.

- Answer phone. Monitor email and Orchard messaging center. Respond to VM, email, and messaging in a professional and timely manner.
- Availability and willingness to respond to laboratory testing questions.
- Wash and fold patient gowns.
- Perform weekly checklist in procedure room.
- Receive and store clinic vaccines as instructed. Clearly communicate all hands offs of the product to leadership or designated person in charge.
- Carry out a range of routine technical and clerical duties.
- Carry out a range of other support duties for the laboratory.
- Displays sensitivity, courtesy, and respect when dealing with patients, team members, and the public.

- Complies with HMA policies, procedures, and accreditation agencies, OSHA, CLIA, etc.
- Attends and actively participates in required clinic meetings, huddles, and training to remain current of operational / workflow changes and to further develop a skill set.

- Performs all job duties listed in this job description, as well as other related duties as assigned/directed in a manner that ensures timely completion of clinic workflows, clinic operations.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Minimum of 1-year prior experience functioning as a:
o Medical Assistant in a clinic/hospital setting.
o Phlebotomist in a clinic, hospital, or physician office setting
o Lab Assistant in a clinical diagnostic laboratory.
- Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Must be able to stand for 8 to 10 hours a day
- Requires regular walking, bending, pushing, pulling and lifting
- Must be able to lift at least 25lbs
- Must be able to manipulate objects—reaching, grasping, handling
- Must exhibit good communication skills—understand, respond and translate into action

- Clinical setting; exposure to communicable diseases, bloodborne pathogens, medical preparations and other conditions common to a clinical environment.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $17.00 - $26.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
