The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) is currently hiring for a Mailroom Supervisor (Business Service Officer I [Supervisor]) within our Program Support Division, who provides a variety of supportive services to CDPH Programs.
We are looking for someone that has extensive knowledge of, or experience with, modern office methods, supplies, and equipment, preferably in mailroom operations; managing and building collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders; and effectively supervising and training staff in large organizations.

Responsibilities:
- Supervise the daily operations of the Mail and Distribution Services Center (MDSC) and the CDPH Sacramento Warehouse including, but not limited to, the receipt, processing, and distribution of mail, parcels, and other deliveries, as well as courier runs or service
- Revise and/or develop processes and procedures as appropriate
- Handle the more complex, technical, and sensitive mail transactions and issues; assist with processing mail, parcels, and other deliveries to the MDSC; and coordinate the receipt and delivery of parcels and other items to the MDSC’s loading dock
- Assist with processing surplus and Warehouse inventory and ensure Warehouse Operations are optimal to provide efficient service to CDPH programs
- Project and forecast future needs and costs of equipment necessary for the MDSC and the CDPH Sacramento Warehouse to function by preparing the necessary documents for equipment purchases and other supply requisitions and conducting and/or attending staff meetings
- Assist with the development of informational memos and other documents to advise Department staff of mail procedures, deliveries, and other mail-related information; compile and maintain mail-related statistics; maintain the postage due and business reply accounts; coordinate the printing of business reply envelopes; and apprise Department staff of their use
- Serve as a liaison with the United States Postal Service and various courier or parcel vendors; maintain current information regarding changes in postal rates and regulations; and attend industry-related meetings as appropriate
Desirable Qualifications:
- Minimum of one (1) year of technical experience beyond the trainee level in one or a combination of the following: equipment and supplies management, including the preparation of purchase documents; building management, including lease negotiation and problem resolution; and/or telecommunicates, including landwire and radio/microwave
- Possession of (or in the process of obtaining) a forklift operator certification
- Strong communication skills, both verbally and in writing, preferably with other leaders, managers, and staff in a diverse work environment
- Extensive knowledge of, or experience with, modern office methods, supplies, and equipment, preferably in mailroom operations; managing and building collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders; and effectively supervising and training staff in large organizations
- Ability to think strategically and assess issues quickly to identify the best possible solution
