SUMMARY: The Sterile Processing Quality Coordinator reports to the Administrative Director Peri-Operative Services. Under general supervision, plans, designs and monitors procedures for a variety of activities related to the processing, purchasing and sterilization of surgical equipment, supplies and materials to assure compliance with quality and safety standards. Develops a training certification program for sterile processing personnel on the standard techniques in decontamination, assembly, sterilization, and distribution of sterile processing (and endoscopic) products and services. Maintains appropriate documentation on all related information systems for the purpose of implementing training procedures for personnel to include EPIC, People Soft etc. Establishes and maintains a liaison with the operating room management and staff for processing trays, ordering instrumentation, and proper techniques for processing trays. Establishes and maintains vendor (loaner trays) inventory through comprehensive protocols and surveillance.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in Science, Healthcare or business administration. Certification in Sterile Processing.
Four years progressively more responsible related experience in operating room setting or similar position to include practical experience in education of staff, aseptic techniques, surgical instrumentation, surgical procedures and materials management. Experience should demonstrate effective leadership/management and high level of organizational and communication skills, as well as effective management of competing priorities. Must demonstrate thorough knowledge of decontamination and sterilization methods, surgical instrumentation and surgical case cart management.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develops, administers and monitors procedures for Steerad, steam, heat, and ethylene oxide sterilization and aeration of surgical and endoscopic equipment, materials and supplies to ensure compliance with hospital and regulatory agency standards.
Develops, administers, monitors and reviews all biological control culturing procedures for sterilizers to ensure equipment is operating according to standard.
Reviews and abstracts regulations promulgated by appropriate regulatory agencies to determine standards set by those agencies; updates and/or revises operational policies, procedures and standards of Sterile Processing to ensure compliance with regulatory agency compliance.
Establishes, maintains and monitors a control system for all material and equipment prepared by Sterile Processing (endoscopy) and provides a tracking system in the event of a recall.
Establishes, maintains and monitors a control system for all equipment contained in the OR (endoscopy), for all equipment being repaired, and for purchase dates of equipment. Provides management with information to aid in Capitol Budget purchases.
Maintains liaison between perioperative service leadership (including physicians) and Sterile Processing to advise on quality processing of equipment. Provides feedback to perioperative leadership through daily interaction, documentation and issue resolution.
Prepares reports and analysis demonstrating progress, adverse trends and appropriate recommendations and/or conclusions. Prepares reports and data relative to monthly errors and quality improvements.
Develops, conducts and coordinates training programs for staff in-service education.
Develops and maintains all policies and procedures for areas of work performed in Sterile Processing (endoscopy.)
