The Packaging Application Engineer is an experienced packaging design professional who works closely with our sales team and customers to develop unique solutions to packaging and logistic problems. This role demonstrates an expert knowledge across multiple packaging disciplines, primarily corrugated, but including folding carton, plastic components, wood, shipping materials and more. This position also understands warehousing, material handling, logistics and automation to provide solutions beyond the package alone. The Packaging Application Engineer’s primary function is to act in support of the sales staff and design team by offering their technical expertise whether traveling to customer facing engagements or working through design solutions with the Premier team.
Responsibilities

Consult with sales as subject matter expert across multiple packaging disciplines

Consistently travels to customers opportunities that have been identified as challenges to assess packaging needs and help design the solution

Works with sales and project managers to communicate solutions determined from an assessment to execute necessary design tasks

Acts as a supportive interface between sales, design and automation to coordinate what is needed to provide a solution to the customer

Works with Packaging Designers to develop concepts
- Creates designs, drawings and prototype samples utilizing ArtiosCAD software and CAD/CAM cutting table

Operates CAPE software to provide ideal loading solutions and identify limitations

Engages with package testing to validate designs and provide reports

Designs according to GMP and machinery limitations of internal plants, external outsource vendors, and suppliers

Initiates and/or participates in project management and process improvement meetings as necessary

Possesses or develops competency in company's management systems – Salesforce & WebCenter

Possesses or develops general graphics knowledge as relating to structural packaging design
Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED required. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university with a concentration in Packaging, industrial design, or engineering preferred.
- 5-10 years of relevant experience required. 4+ years of corrugated design and packaging industry experience preferred.

Computer skills: Microsoft applications: Word, Excel is required; ArtiosCAD is a must; CAPE, Solidworks, AutoCAD, or 3D applications a plus

Expertise: Corrugated packaging is a must; additional knowledge in other forms of packaging, warehousing, logistics or automation a plus
