POSITION SUMMARY:
The University Nurse provides comprehensive health care to students, faculty, and staff at the university. This role involves delivering clinical care, health education, and promoting wellness within the campus community. The University Nurse collaborates with other healthcare professionals, administrators, and external partners to ensure a healthy and safe environment for all. This is a full time position working 9 months out of the year (August - May).
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Clinical Care:
- Provide direct patient care, including assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up for common illnesses and injuries.
- Administer medications, immunizations, and treatments as prescribed.
- Conduct health screenings and physical examinations.
- Maintain accurate and confidentialpatient records.
- Health Education and Promotion:
- Develop and implement health education programs and workshops for students and staff on topics such as nutrition, mental health, sexual health, and substance abuse.
- Create informational materials and resources to promote healthy lifestyles and preventive care.
- Crisis Management and Support:
- Respond to medical emergencies on campus and provide appropriate care and referrals.
- Offer support and resources for students dealing with mental health crises or other urgent health issues.
- Collaboration and Coordination:
- Work closely with other healthcare providers, including physicians, mental health counselors, external specialists, and campus student care navigator.
- Coordinate care with local hospitals, clinics, and public health agencies as needed.
- Participate in multidisciplinary teams to address student health concerns.
- Administrative Duties:
- Assist in the development and implementation of health policies and protocols.
- Maintain an inventory of medical supplies and ensure equipment is properly maintained.
- Participate in health services staff meetings and professional development activities.
- Student Support:
- Provide counseling and guidance on health-related issues.
- Serve as a resource for students with chronic health conditions, helping them manage their care while attending the university.
- Assist in the coordination of care for students with disabilities or special health needs.
Requirements:
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Proficiency in managing health records.
- Knowledge of public health principles and practices.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) required. Master’s degree in Nursing (MSN) or related field preferred.
- Licensure/Certification: Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state. Certification in college health nursing or related specialty is desirable.
- Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of clinical nursing experience, preferably in a college health or adolescent health setting.
