Vet Tech Assistant for Animal Shelter
PAWS Shelter of Central Texas is a No-Kill facility that believes in second chances! We are a hard-working, compassionate group that cares for 150 wonderful dogs and cats in our adoption program. We are hiring for our new Dripping Springs facility.
PAWS seeks a uniquely talented individual with strong customer service and some Vet Tech experience to help round out our dedicated crew.
Duties Include:
- Assisting our Lead Vet Tech with administering medications and treatments to sick animals, as well as giving routine vaccinations and preventatives.
- Preparing and assisting with high-volume spay/neuter clinics.
- Applying monthly preventative to all animals onsite and in foster care.
- Assisting with the intake of animals transferred from our shelter partners.
- Transporting animals to and from veterinary appointments.
- Detailed and mindful cleaning of animal kennels, cages, and workspace.
- Experience with venipuncture, SQ injections, oral medications and are able to observe signs of illness in dogs and cats easily.
- Assisting in scheduling foster animals for booster vaccinations, surgery, and other medical treatments.
- Data entry of animals and their medical histories into our database; experience with ShelterLuv and Google Docs is a plus.
- Daily verbal and written communication with the public and staff over the phone, direct contact, and email.
- Maintaining a clean, organized and functional working space

- Able to maintain concentration despite frequent interruptions.
- Able to be flexible and manage multiple tasks.
- Being comfortable with handling animals that may be stressed or fractious.

Physical Requirements:
- Physical ability to walk/stand on your feet throughout a typical workday required.
- Physical ability to engage in repetitive motions of legs, arms and hands, to hear, to see, and to move animals and goods.
- Allergic conditions, which would be aggravated when handling or working with animals, may be a disqualification.
- Must be able to carry up to 50 pounds without assistance.
Educational Requirements:
- High school graduation
- Experience working with animals is a plus, willing to train the right person
- Valid Texas driver's license and a clean driving record
- Previous work with rescue groups or humane societies is a plus but not required
- Reliable personal transportation is required.
This position requires outstanding written and verbal communication abilities, a strong desire to be a team player and excellent organizational skills. Weekends and holidays are required, no exceptions.

Compensation: DOE, no health benefits offered
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $15.00 - $16.50 per hour
Expected hours: 24 – 32 per week
