CapSpecialty is seeking a Senior Underwriter who in addition to underwriting, building and nurturing a book of casualty brokerage business with a dedicated wholesale distribution force, the Senior Underwriter provides an advanced level of underwriting analysis to the Specialty Casualty brokerage team. The risks and exposures he/she evaluates are generally sophisticated and require complex critical thinking approaches to address differing circumstances. The Senior Underwriter demonstrates superior underwriting skills and a detailed knowledge of rates, forms, pricing structures, terms and conditions.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Focus on growing our unsupported excess business within the construction space. Establish/enhance relationships with key brokers within the space to help drive growth.

Contribute to strategy and execute a business plan to work with licensed agents to place E&S business on behalf of CapSpecialty.

Direct the selection and termination of your agents.

Meet all underwriting profit expectations as agreed upon in annual budget.

Establish excellent and professional working relationships with agents. Make presentations at agent meetings throughout the year.

Coach and advise less experienced staff to ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines.

Assist with development, monitoring and modifying policy forms and rate levels.

Establish, revise or clarify underwriting standards and guidelines when needed.

Advise on the creation and upkeep of formal underwriting audit procedures for internal underwriters.

Ensure efficiencies by reviewing processes and procedures and implementing changes as necessary. Contribute to the team by accomplishing related results as needed.

Work closely with operations manager to ensure our service standards are achieved. Work with all other departments to ensure financial integrity and customer satisfaction.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Provide indirect supervision and guidance to Underwriters and Assistant Underwriters by assigning work and establishing priorities.
Core Competencies:

Knowledge of excess and surplus insurance operations, rules, procedures, laws, coverage forms and ratedevelopment.

Must be able to communicate ideas and goals to employees and brokers/agents.
Education and Experience:
-
Bachelor's degree or equivalent.

5-7 years of commercial underwriting experience working with wholesale and retail brokers.

Experience in assisting with the development of guidelines, forms, rates and applications.

Completion or continuing work towards Certification in CIC, IIA, CPCU, or other programs approved by leadership.
Physical Demands:

Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

May be required to lift up to 15 lbs at times.
