Manages all indirect tax activities regarding tax research, tax records, schedules, planning, accounting and compliance for the organization. Ensures timely and accurate filing of tax returns. Assesses tax implications surrounding pending mergers and acquisitions. Recommends ways to minimize indirect taxes through use of tax laws and regulations. May administer international tax laws and regulations. Maintains tax records and the preparation of composite tax returns and related reports to ensure compliance with all federal, state, local, and/or foreign tax regulations.
- Oversees and manages the responsibilities for timely and accurate filing obligations related to U.S. sales & use tax and Canada GST/HST. Also manages property tax reporting and business licenses. Reviews tax calculations and general ledger account reconciliations, and ensures payments are submitted timely to minimize interest and penalties. Ensures supporting files are complete and can be retrieved for audit, review, and legal purposes..
- Manages sales tax engine integration with the financial systems and is responsible for developing appropriate relationships with A/R and A/P management teams, in support of sales & use tax planning and compliance.
- Monitors and stays abreast of tax related legislative, legal and regulatory changes regarding sales & use taxes. Follows proposed laws tax laws regarding such areas as tax rates, nexus, taxability, etc., throughout the legislative lifecycle in order to plan/interpret the potential impacts to the company if enacted. Implements best tax practices to minimize the company's tax liability.
- Responds to tax notices as needed, and manages audit defense for the company as indirect tax audits arise. Works with government auditors to provide requested information as well as providing quarterly updates and risk assessments to management during the audit.
- Ensures that policies, procedures and controls are documented and in place to meet internal and external audit requirements, including those necessary for Sarbanes Oxley.
- Communicates corporate, division, and department information openly with team members through regular staff meetings and other communications.
- Serves as escalation point, exercises independent action and handles non-routine issues without referral to management for input or recommendations. Makes decisions which typically affect a cost center, department or the entire enterprise.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree
- Relevant Experience or Degree in: accounting, finance or related degree or qualifying certification (CPA, CMA, ACA, CIMA, ACCA Certification)
- Typically a minimum of 10 years
Related professional experience including a minimum of 5-6 years experience in a managerial position.
