The Milo Foundation’s Canine Caregiver will work within a team setting to actively participate in the health, well-being, and general care of Milo Foundation’s dogs and puppy population and help facilitate pet adoptions by speaking knowledgeably about them with the public. The role will include dog-care, feeding and cleaning, medical assistance and customer service.
Essential and Primary Duties/Responsibilities:
- Perform and ensure daily feeding, cleaning and enrichment for our canine population are completed in accordance with prescribed time frames and protocols.
- Monitor animals’ eating and elimination habits, behavior and medical issues and report concerns to appropriate staff for proper and timely attention.
- Customer service duties may include but are not limited to: Meeting and greeting clients, safely conducting introductions to animals, providing helpful advice on the proper care of animals, and assisting customers/volunteers in meeting the dogs.
- Respond quickly to client and general inquiries or direct them to other team members when appropriate and as needed.
- Fulfill general facility cleaning needs, spraying down yards, poop scooping, laundry, removing trash, recycling, mopping, sweeping, and other cleaning duties as needed.
- Work closely and cooperatively with volunteers, promoting positive morale, creativity, and teamwork.
- Other duties as assigned by Management.
Preferred skills and experience:
- Some previous experience working closely with dogs of various types.
- Experience interacting with the general public in a professional manner and providing excellent customer service.
- Strong interpersonal skills, empathy and discretion to handle sensitive and confidential situations with tact and diplomacy.
- Must be reliable, trustworthy, confident, positive, personable, and energetic, to be a dependable and cooperative member of the team and set a good example for others.
- Be self-motivated, enthusiastically demonstrating flexibility to persist until goals are achieved and canines well cared for.
- Demonstrated resourcefulness, taking the initiative to resolve problems and seek answers independently.
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to juggle multiple competing tasks and demands.
- Ability to advocate Milo’s philosophy and promote donations and support for our Adoption Center and Sanctuary
- Be open to changing schedules, as daily work hours and days of the week may change. Likely the schedule includes some weekend days and holidays and may vary according to the needs of the organization and the animal care needs.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to routinely lift up to 50 pounds.
- Must be physically and mentally capable of working safely and confidently with dogs of all temperaments and medical conditions.
- Must be able to perform strenuous physical activity on a daily basis, including but not limited to: Lifting and carrying, reaching, climbing ladders, stooping, squatting, cleaning and bending.
- Work indoors and outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
- Standing and walking for long periods of time throughout the day.
