Job Title: Regional Laboratory Manager
Reports to (title): Senior Laboratory Manager / Director of Laboratory Operations

Basic Purpose: What is the overall function of the job?
- Overall management of the regional functions, forecasting, budgeting, financial controls and approvals.
- Direct the maximization of human, equipment and financial resources and ensure that they are used appropriately.
- Assess and execute new processes and procedures that will streamline and increase the throughput of samples, Bureau Veritas’ market share, profile and profitability.
- Responsible for the lab’s production of high quality defensible data, safely and on time.
- Based on region specific knowledge, ensure that the laboratories in the region are using methods to meet current and proposed regulatory guidelines as well as customer requirements.
- Oversee maintenance of good working environment, employee engagement and ensure continuous improvement in productivity and efficiency
- Identifies and develops (working with business development) new business opportunities in the region.
- Expands the lab network (currently one) to meet the market and customer needs.
Key Accountability/Responsibilities: What specifically is this job expected to accomplish?
- Develop strategic plans with the objective of preparing the department for continued growth
- Develop business plans that increase Bureau Veritas’ profile in the region
- Develop and maintain a positive work environment for employees • Act as technical resource for Manager, Customer Service and Sales
- Responsible for the recommendation of capital expenditures required within the region
- Establish production schedules that maximize staff and equipment utilization, including evening and weekends
- Support and comply with all Bureau Veritas policies, Quality System and Health & Safety program.
- Understand and enforce our EHS Policy as well as the Occupational Health and Safety Act
- The leader of the team responsible for the profit and loss of the region managed
- Accountable for the quality performance of the region including crosscheck, Statistical Quality Control (SQC) and audits
- Responsible for personnel decisions in the region, including employee recruitment, retention and development
- Responsible for client marketing and development.
- Provide leadership and direction to the assigned region
- Initial point of contact for quality and operational issues that cannot be handled at the local level.
- Develops strong relationships with customers, both regionally based and in central coordination.
- Responsible for laboratory cost control
- Maintains corporate policy & procedures at the regional level.
- Reviews local operations for all aspects of the continuous improvement process.
- Handles all disciplinary matters according to company policy and procedures while maintaining open communication with the Human Resource (HR) department.
- Represents Bureau Veritas by appearance and conduct.

Skills and Knowledge: What skills and knowledge are used to carry out job responsibilities and solve problems?
- B.Sc., technical diploma or equivalent experience
- Demonstrated success in the role of Laboratory Supervisor/Manager
- 10 years of experience in specific environment of which two (5) years are at a leadership level
- Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations related to laboratory operations, with a commitment to ensure operational efficiency and promoting a culture of safety
- Up-to-date knowledge of laboratory process and automation
- Thorough understanding of Bureau Veritas’ Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
- Assess problems and recommends solutions
- Uses good judgement, trains and assists in resolution of employee relations issues
- Good team building, training and coaching skills
- Accurately follows Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) and instructions
- Detail oriented with accurate record keeping skills
- Good time-management, multi-tasking and priority setting skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Positive outlook with an ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Adapts to a changing environment
- Works both independently and as part of a team
Work Relationships
- Internal: Laboratory Operations, Measurement Operations, Sales, Customer Service and Executives in the division
- External: Customers, Laboratory supplies and equipment vendors (Agilent, Fisher, etc.)
Working Conditions: physical work environment, physical effort, visual and listening attention, and travel
- High level of work production in fast-paced lab environment
- Flexible working hours, overtime and shift work
- Intermediate travel expectation (within the US and Canada)
- Some lifting and carrying (up to 40 lbs)
- Hazardous materials are handled using established safety procedures and appropriate equipment Acknowledgement
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $90,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
