Deckhand
Location: 7904 First Av, Port Arthur, TX 77640
Pay: $217.86 per day for the 90-day probationary period, then $237.86 per day thereafter until USCG license is obtained, then $314.28 as a Licensed Deckhand. Discretionary bonuses are considered twice a year based on performance evaluations. Cost of living is analyzed annually and pay rates adjusted accordingly. 2 paid personal days per year after one year of employment.

Sabine Pilots Service Inc. operates and maintains a fleet of five pilot boats utilized to transport marine pilots to and from ships calling on the Sabine-Neches Waterway. Job Summary
Sabine Pilot Service Inc. is looking for a new Deckhand. Job duties will include but not be limited to performance of the following:
· Learn and follow company policies and procedures
· Assist Pilots on and off Pilot vessels
· Inspect and handle mooring lines for securing Pilot vessels
· Assist Pilots in embarking and disembarking ships to include:
· Being an additional set of eyes on adequacy of Pilot transfer arrangements
o Tending to Pilots bags and sending bag to ship/receiving bag from ship via heaving line
o Assist Pilot at ladder when embarking or disembarking and remain on deck from the time the Pilot is on the ladder to the time they are on the deck of the ship or Pilot boat.
· Make routine rounds of the vessel to ensure no flooding, signs of fire, or machinery issues
· Ensure navigation lights are operational, weather decks are clear, and vessel is secure for sea (particularly after leaving dock).
· Act as lookout when vessel is underway and assist Captain in vessel operation
· Clean and sanitize interior vessel spaces (bunk rooms, head, galley, and main cabin, windows, and decks) and ensure paper towels, toilet paper, and coffee are stocked.
· Wash and scrub exterior of vessels
· Maintain a clean engine room and machinery spaces
· Participate in drills, exercises, and training
· Assist Captain with any maintenance assigned
· Report any deficiencies or nonconformities to the Captain so they may be addressed
· Observe and learn all the job duties of the captain and be able to operate the vessel in the Captain’s stead
Requirements
· High School diploma or GED equivalent
· Must pass a background check
· Must pass a pre-employment physical and DOT drug test
· Must participate in random drug screening program
· Must have a TWIC card
· Must be eligible for USCG licensure after acquisition of sea time
· Must be friendly, respectful, and able to work with different types of personalities and communication styles
· Required to do standby on your 7 days off every other month
· Be available to work on short notice for overtime as needed
· Must have reliable transportation to/from work
· Previous maritime experience is a plus
· Good mechanical skills are a plus
Must live with in a reasonable travel distance as this is a Day boat job and rotating 12 hour shifts.
