Description:
Paraprofessionals assist classroom teachers in instructing designated special education students, monitoring student progress, and enforcing the general rules and regulations of the school. Candidates should demonstrate a genuine interest in supporting elementary school students' academic, social, and emotional development. A passion for working with children and helping them succeed is essential.
Requirements:
Administrative Responsibilities

Communicates and coordinates with case manager, special education teacher, and special education families

Accompanies students to assemblies, monitors behaviors, and sits with group
-
Supervises students and never leaves students unattended
Teaching Responsibilities
-
Provides appropriate test-taking accommodations such as reading questions orally or lengthening time allowed

Keeps record of student academic and/or behavior performance

Supports special education student(s) in general education classroom by assisting with academic needs

Assists general education teachers by adapting curriculum materials and teaching techniques to meet the needs of students with disabilities

Attends parent teacher conferences with general education teacher to discuss student progress
Professional Responsibilities

Dresses appropriately and professionally

Maintains accountability for ALL policies/procedures in the teacher's handbook

Attends all faculty meetings and other designated meetings

Demonstrates professional advancement annually through professional reading, seminars, workshops, classes, etc.

Attends Open House, Parent-Teacher Conferences, and other mandatory school events

Turns in forms and documents on time

Enforces the rules, regulations and consequence continuum of the school

Consistently implements and monitors behavior

Monitors, collects, and records data as needed
Must have a paraprofessional license as required by ISBE
