About BYP100
Founded in 2013, BYP100 (Black Youth Project 100) is a member-based organization of Black youth activists creating justice and freedom for all Black people. We are building a network focused on transformative leadership development, direct action organizing, advocacy, and education. Our membership is building a Black politic through a Black, queer, feminist lens.
Our work is generally centered on ending systems of anti-Blackness and emphasizing the urgency of protecting folks living on the margins of society. As of 2022, BYP100 is a unionized workplace with BYP100 Workers United.
About the Interim National Director(s)
BYP100 is seeking interim leadership to stabilize, support and lead the organization through a season of executive leadership transition (Summer 2024-2025). Specifically, we are looking for experienced organizational leaders who can support the Board as it leads a national search for permanent co-directors, partner with board, staff, and members to identify areas of strength and areas of growth for the organization, and coach and support directors to lead their departments during this time. Ideal candidates will have strong organizational management experience and expertise, facilitation skills and have a leadership practice rooted in power-sharing, liberation, care and accountability. We intend for this position to be temporary and encourage candidates to apply who are skilled at supporting organizations in transition.
The Board of Directors is open to hiring one interim director or two co-directors. Please specify your personal preference in your application materials.
Responsibilities
Leadership Transition
- Build collaboration relationships with staff, members, board members and key support to understand the vision, values and needs of all stakeholders in this season of transition.
- Support the Board in leading a national search for new co-directors.
- Partner with the Board, staff and members to conduct an organizational assessment to identify the strengths and areas of growth for the organization.
- Make recommendations to the Board about structural and/or operational changes necessary to align our values and visions with our actions and ability to deliver on our mission.
- Staff and lead transition committees at the request of the Board of Directors.
Organizational Management
- Stabilize the organization in the midst of this transition period.
- Oversee the daily operations of the organization including programming, fundraising, financial stewardship and Board development.
- Coach and support all members of the senior leadership team.
- Participate in the Labor Management Committee as a member of the management team.
- Participate in the renegotiation of the Collective Bargaining Agreement with the Union.
- Oversee the creation and implementation of our yearly budget in partnership with the leadership team, staff and board.
- Co-create annual work plans for the organization, departments and individuals and ensure everyone is resourced and supported to succeed in their roles.
- Provide thought partnership, coaching and leadership to all staff and members as is appropriate for the wellness and continued growth and development of all individuals.
- Cultivate a culture of mutual trust, respect and accountability throughout the organization.
Board Management
- Partner with the Board to lead a national search for co-directors.
- Partner with the Board Chair and Vice-Chair to design and facilitate Board meetings and retreats leverages the unique skills, expertise and experience of the Board in service of the organization vision, mission and needs.
- Serve as a bridge between the Board and daily operations of the organization by providing timely and consistent reports about the organization.
External Partnership and Communication
- Represent BYP100 to external programming, organizing and funding partners
- Serve as an ambassador of the organization’s mission, vision and values

Required Qualifications:
- Understanding of and ability to articulate BYP100’s mission, vision, values, and areas of work
- 5 years organizational leadership
- 5 years of management experience
- Experience serving on or chairing a Board of Trustees or Board of Directors.
- Trained in the art and science of convening and facilitation.
- Willingness to work evenings and weekends as necessary for the role.
- Coaching orientation to management and staff development.
- Strong written and public speaking skills.
- Strategic planning and/or program development experience.
- Union experience preferred but not required
- Commitment to the temporary nature of this position.
Salary and compensation package:
$100k -125k
