The Medical Assistant will function in the Healthcare Clinic within Nursing Service. The Medical Assistant duties include:
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assisting medical personnel in the care of treatment of patient illness or medical conditions.
Monitoring and recording vital signs, weights, and heights.
Performing a variety of routine tests including but not limited to nares, swabs, glucometer sticks, EKG, and bladder scans.
Preparing, ambulating, transporting, and positioning the patient.
Assisting the physician/nurse in a variety of examinations and treatments.
Reporting observations and changes of the condition of ambulatory care patients.
Performing a wide variety of duties aimed at increasing the comfort and spirit of the patient.
Following designated charting techniques to post to patients charts that provide a daily outline or summary of the patient's care.
Setting up various types of complex medical equipment.
Educating the patient and family member on specific health information based on patient's condition.
Providing a safe and supportive environment for patients, staff and others.
Using and directing others to use equipment safely and appropriately.
Incorporating age, gender, cultural and learning need of patients and families requiring complex care planning and evaluation.
Applying infection control measure appropriately in delivering care,
Adhering to ethical principles and nursing standards in delivering care.
Using effective communication skills with individuals and groups to achieve desired patient outcomes.
Performing specialized treatments for patients as appropriate and applying and maintaining appropriate competencies to do so.
Assisting with outpatient procedures.
Assisting with clinic flow processes.
Participation in communication "huddles" with the RN/LPN to receive information and direction of delegated duties.
Assist in participation of various programs appropriate to clinical setting and quality
improvement.
Supports the maintenance and sustainability of the PCMH model of care as the leader of the care team.
Reports to Director of Nursing
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Basic Life Support required and renewed annually.
Excellent communication skills.
Flexible.
Capable of and interest in a variety in work assignments.
Dependable, ability to work and relate well to patients, staff, and coworkers, mature conduct, well organized, ability to work in a busy environment without being distracted, ability to accept supervision and follow instructions, ability to work independently, must be flexible and interested in a variety of job experiences.
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondences, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondences. Ability to effectively present information on a one on one in small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
