SMAA is seeking a Part-Time (20 Hours per week) Resident Attendant for our Independent Housing with Services Program at Mayflower Place in Sanford. The Independent Housing with Services Program (IHSP) provides supportive services to increase independence and freedom of choice for residents. Supportive services include personal care, homemaking, service coordination, and meals. The program's purpose is to address service needs for older adults who have long-term care needs but do not need nursing home level of care. It is the agency’s goal that providing these services will promote safety, stability and independence for the residents while reflecting a person-centered approach focused on residents’ needs, goals, and objectives. The primary responsibility of the Resident Attendant is to provide compassionate and personalized care to individuals in their homes who require assistance with daily living activities. This role will work closely with clients to ensure their physical, emotional and social needs are met, promoting their overall well-being and independence. The Resident Attendant works closely with the Resource Specialist to ensure coordination of services needed.
Responsibilities
Reporting to the Service Coordinator, the Resident Attendant will work closely with the Resource Specialist, housing staff, and residents. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Connects with residents, via telephone or in-person wellness checks, daily Monday-Friday
- Assists residents with activities of daily living based on resident need and care plan
- Provides light household support such as tidying up and heating up meals
- Escorts residents with ambulatory limitations, as needed, to meals and other congregate activities
- Acts as a liaison to housing staff when information about resident concerns and issues arises
- Provides meals in a congregate setting to help promote and encourage socialization
- Works closely with SMAA Resource Specialist to provide information and resources for additional needs
- Assists in the coordination of identified additional needs such as laundry and transportation
- Provides documentation through shift log notes, individual narrative reports, and incident reports, of assistance and services provided
- Monitors the census, records incidents, and maintains other records as needed
- Assists the residents in a safe manner, exercising the strictest of safety policies for both the residents and staff
- Provides emotional support and companionship by engaging residents in meaningful conversations and activities, providing emotional support and a caring presence, encouraging and accompanying residents in social activities
- Ensures that the work area and work practices focus on safety, including reporting all work related incidents via an incident report immediately and any possible work-related safety concerns to the program supervisor
- Interacts and cooperates with other staff members as part of the overall team
- Participates in resident care conferences and staff meetings as directed
- Reports to the program supervisor any changes/concerns in the resident’s condition or family situation
- Maintains confidentiality of the records and all aspects of the residents’ care
Qualifications

and/or education that supports their alignment with the skills we are seeking. Preference will be given to applicants with experience in caregiving and working with older adults.
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Certification in CPR and First Aid (within first 3 months of employment)
- Previous experience in caregiving, working with older adults or related field preferred
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Compassionate and caring demeanor
- Ability to work independently and follow instructions
- Must be highly organized, able to multi-task and prioritize
- Need to be flexible and highly adaptable
- Punctual, dependable, and reliable
- Ability to problem solve in emergency situations
- A self-starter who requires minimal supervision
- Ability to collaborate as part of a team
- Must have access to reliable transportation
Salary and Benefits
This is a part-time position, 20 hours per week, with an hourly pay rate of $19.00.
A 20-hour-per-week position is offered the following benefits, which are prorated based on the number of hours worked:
