TITLE OF POSITION: Physical Therapist
TITLE OF IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Director of Nursing
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
1. Have graduated from a physical therapy curriculum approved by The American Physical Therapy Association; or
2. The Council on Medical Education and Hospital of the APTA; or
3. The Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association in collaboration with the American Physical Therapy Association.
4. Hold a license to practice physical therapy in the state of New Mexico.
5. Have a minimum of one (1) year work experience as a physical therapist.
Responsibilities: Physical therapy services shall include but not be limited to:
1. Assessment and reassessment of the patient/client and assistance in evaluating the patient/client by administering muscle, nerve, joint and functional ability tests.
2. Treating patient/clients to relieve pain, develop or restore function, and maintain maximum performance, utilizing teaching, exercise, massage, and applicable therapy treatments and modalities.
3. Directing and assisting patient/clients in active and passive exercise, muscle re-education and functional training, activities of daily living, including transfer activities and prosthetic training.
4. Provision of therapy utilizing equipment such as ultraviolet and infrared lamps, low voltage generators, diathermy, and ultrasonic machines.
5. Apply moist packs.
6. Observing, recording, and reporting to the physician the patient/client’s condition.
7. Instructing the patient/client in the care and use of wheelchairs, braces, crutches, canes, and prosthetic and orthotic devices.
8. Instructing other health team members, including home health aides and family members, in the home program.
9. Development, implementation, review, and renewal of the plan of treatment in cooperation with the physician.
10. Development, implementation, review, and revision of the plan of care and documenting clinical and progress notes, summaries, and other clinical record information.
11. Participation in case conferences, staff meetings, and in-service programs as indicated.
12. Supervision of the physical therapy assistants once monthly with documentation of coordination of care between the therapist and the therapy assistant at least every two weeks. Home Health Aids are supervised in the home every two weeks.
13. Acts as the patient/client’s advocate, as circumstances require, by initiating action to improve health care or to change decisions or activities which are against the interests or wishes of the patient/client, and by giving the patient/client the opportunity to make informed decisions about health care before it is provided.
14. Participates, as indicated, in the patient/client’s discharge planning process.
15. Complies with agency policies and procedures.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, PRN
Pay: $80,000.00 - $102,000.00 per year
